Q.3 What base quantities are involved in these derived physical quantities; force, pressure, power and charge.

(a) Force:
Force F = ma
SI Unit of force is Newton (N) = kgms-2
Base quantities involved in force a mass, length, and time.

(b) Pressure:

Pressure =  force/area
Pressure = F/A

The SI unit of force (F = ma) is Newton N = kgms and unit of area A is m² = kgm 1s-2
The SI Unit of Pressure is Pascal “Pa” kgms-2 /m2 =kgm-1s-2
So, the Base quantities involved in Pressure are Mass, length, and time.

(c) Power:
Power = Work/time
Power = W/t

The SI unit of Work (W = F.d) is joule (J) = kgm2s-2 and unit of time is second (s)
The SI Unit of Power is Watt “W” = kgm²s-2 = kgm2s-3
So, the Base quantities involved in Power are Mass length and time.

(d) Charge:
Charge = Electric Current x change in time
SI Unit of charge is Coulomb (C) = As

Base quantities involved in work are Electric current and time.
