Name and define three types of arthritis.

Here are three common types of arthritis:

  1. Osteoarthritis (OA):
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and occurs when the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of the bones wears down over time. This leads to pain, stiffness, swelling, and decreased joint mobility. It is typically associated with aging or repetitive joint stress.

  2. Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA):
Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the lining of the joints, causing inflammation. Over time, this inflammation can damage the joints, leading to pain, swelling, deformities, and reduced function. RA often affects multiple joints symmetrically, such as those in the hands, wrists, and knees.

  3. Gout:
Gout is a form of inflammatory arthritis caused by a buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints, usually affecting the big toe. The excess uric acid can form sharp crystals that cause sudden, severe pain, redness, and swelling in the affected joint. Gout often occurs due to high levels of uric acid in the blood, which can result from diet, genetics, or other health conditions.
