Q(vii). Important Sindhi poets and prose writers.

Ans: Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai (1689-1752) is the greatest Sindhi poet, his book
“Shah jo Risalo” is his eternal masterpiece. Sachal Sarmast was another
contemporary of Shah Abdul Latif, Bhitai. In addition to Sindhi he also
composed poetry in Hindi, Urdu, Siraiki, Punjabi and Persian, his couplets
number about nine lac. In the same period a religious scholar and great
prose writer Makhdoom Muhammad Hashim wrote 150 books in Sindhi and
Persian. Aziz Ullah also wrote in the same period. Mirza Qaleech Baig was a
well-known Sindhi writer of the British period. He produced 400 books.
Sheikh Ayaz, Prof. Karim Bukhsh Nizamani and Asadullah Bhutto are the
contemporary leaders of Sindhi literature.
