Ans: Sheep and Goats:
. Sheep and goats are reared in fertile as well semi-arid areas of the country
like Thai, Thar Potwar Plateau and Balochistan Plateau.
. Cold climate of our western mountainous region is ideal for rearing of high-
quality sheep breeds. Fat rump (tail) rams are common in these areas.
. Sheep farms have also been set up at Jabba (Hazara) and Kaghan valley.
Jhampir (Thatta) and Okara sheep farms are being run by government.
. In addition to these, large numbers of private farms have been set up in different
areas. A sheep produces approximately two kilograms of wool annually.
. Wool produced in our farms is generally of low quality and does not meet
international standards, only bibric and harnai varieties are of some value.
. Millions of goats are reared in Pakistan in houses and farms. Goats provide
us milk, meat and hides. Goat skins are tanned into superior quality leather.
. Kaghan valley goats have thin, soft and long hair, called pashmina which is
used for weaving shawls.
