Ans: Coal mining in the area which is now Pakistan started in 1887. Coal is a
traditional source of energy but in Pakistan it never gained the position of a
major source due to the reason that coal found in Pakistan is generally of
lower quality or its mining is too expensive. We have been using most of our
coal for generating thermal energy or in brick kilns, but due to the fast increasing
oil prices importance of our indigenous coal reserves is being felt now.
