Ans: Pak-Bangladesh Relations:
The east wing of Pakistan separated from the west wing in 1971. The province
declared independence under a new name Bangladesh. There were other
factors also but the most important factor that broke Pakistan was Indian
intrigue. There were lot of misunderstanding between the two countries in the
beginning but relations started improving later. Pakistan recognized Bangladesh
as a gesture of goodwill during second Islamic Summit Conference held at
Lahore in 1974. Founder of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujib-Ur-Rehman attended this
conference. Bangladesh government imposed death penalties on a number of
political figures, only for the reason that they had supported united Pakistan in
1971. Despite all that provocation Pakistan observed restraint and did not sever
diplomatic relations with Bangladesh. Both countries are active members of the
SAARC and maintain common point of view on a number of global issues.
