Ans: Pakistan and the Organization of Islamic Co-operation (OIC):
Fifty-seven Muslim States spread over four continents have joined hands to
form a common platform known as the Organization of Islamic Co-operation:
OIC.
(i) The OIC is the largest inter-governmental organization after the UN. This
organization is the united voice of the Muslim world. The OIC works in
collaboration with other countries of the world for the establishment of world
peace and to safeguard the interest of Muslim Ummah.
(ii) In 1969 an extremist Zionist set a part of Al-Masjid-al-Aqsa in Jerusalem on
fire. This incident sent a wave of grief and anger throughout the Muslim
world. Muslim héads of the state and government got together in Rabat, the
capital of Morocco on September 25, 1969 and resolved to establish a
common platform of the Muslim countries.
(iii) As one of the founder members of the OIC, Pakistan always played very
active role for the achievement of organization’s objectives. Pakistan had the
honour to host the second Islamic Summit Conference held in Lahore from
(iv) A conference of the OIC foreign minister was held in December, 2021 in
Islamabad to discuss the problems Afghanistan’s new government is facing
with. Unity of the Muslim World has always been the cardinal principle of
Pakistan’s foreign policy. Pakistan has always given priority to its relations
with brotherly Muslim countries.
